Weekly Round up – w/e 8th October

Cross Country Racing

The cross country season started on Sunday at a familiar venue of Nunroyd Park in Guiseley in mild October weather.

Ollie Wright won the under 13 boys race by just 2 seconds from Leeds City’s George Hackney with James Bastow coming 7th in the same race. In the under 13 girl’s race Imogen Brown and Hannah Lovett came 5th and 6th respectively. There was a good turnout of 7 runners from the club in the under 15 girl’s race as Kate Setchell (6th), Isobel Madden (7th) and Lucy Davey (9th) led the club to a win in the team race. In the under 17 ladies race, Lottie Langan was a dominant winner of the race by about 50 metres from Harrogate’s Niamh Robinson. With Sophie Robertson-Dover getting her best ever finish of 3rd in the League the club took the team race. Under 17 men’s team did well to complete a team having fielded two teams the day before in the National Road Relays. Charlie Fielding in 6th place led to the team home in 2nd place.

In the senior races Mark Bolland-Cage had a good run to finish 9th as he led what was the club’s second string team round as the club finished a respectable 7th place in the team event. In the senior women’s race Karen Wood was 2nd vet 55 and Therese Jansson 3rd vet 35.

Road Racing

The club had a good day at the National Road Relays that were held at Sutton Park in Birmingham as the senior men’s team came 24th and the two under 17 teams came 26th and 47th.

Angus McMillan had another good run on the opening 5.85k leg as he came in 2nd in a time of 17.12, a time that ended up being the 9th fastest of the day. Tommy Shaw continued his improvement on the 2nd leg as he ran 17.53. James Tucker (18.29), Adam Bateman (19.33), Mark Bolland-Cage (19.35) and Tim Stratton (18.47) closed out the team performance which was a club record.

The under 17 men’s A team of Isaac Stabler (12.27), Will Hardy (13.22) and Cole McAndrew (12.24) came 26th in a competitive race. The B team of Sam Dickinson (13.20), Isaac Bastow (13.41) and Miles Watson (13.38) came 47th.

10 runners from the club did parkrun over the weekend. Chrissie Dover continued her comeback from injury by coming 2nd at Nostell Priory in 23.33. There were veteran age group wins for Steve Wright. Jon Blake and Allan Scott with junior age group wins for Josh Reid and James Bastow.
