Road and Cross Country running

Will Hardy, Beau Jamieson-Wannell and Cole McAndrew all smashed their PBs at the York Sport Village Even Splits 5k on Friday night, Cole was 1st Junior Man (15:50) Beau (15:53) and Will (16:19). James Bastow also ran well again, matching his PB with 18:51 with Hannah Lovett also running a PB of 19.35. Alan Brown had one of his best ever runs to run a PB of 17.17 and it was also good to see Holly Moss back in action with 19.19. Nick Lovett also took part and ran 21.05.

On Saturday the first race in the British Cross Challenge took place at a wet and muddy Cardiff. Angus McMillan continued his good start to the cross country season by coming 9th overall and 4th British runner in the senior men’s race. Gianluca Mastrolonardo came 14th in the junior men’s race with Lottie Langan coming 15th in the under 17 women’s race.

Although many of our regular junior racers were having a rest weekend between the West Yorkshires and the National Relays, the club had 25 juniors in Sunday’s PECO races at South Leeds including a number of new members gaining early experience of cross country. Good to see so many willing to race and getting organised to enter. A misty day but nice conditions, with a very long steady hill, and a short sharp hill, making it testing as we have limited access to those in York. The Primary Age race had an impressive 192 runners setting off up the long hill, and our new athletes adapted very well to the new challenge and judged their pace and effort well. Our leading finishers were Josh Reid 31st and James Hodgkinson 39th. For the girls, Nattida Chaibamrung was 15th in her first cross country race, and Harriet Brown 17th.

The secondary age race had 134 runners. We were led by a great run by James Bastow in 13th and second Under 13 – finishing with the first 2 girls who are older and well know strong runners. Wilson Moisey-Smith also had a good run in 23rd. Many girls had very good runs, led by Lucy Davey 3rd, Nina Hopkins 4th, Imogen Brown 8th , Hannah Lovett 9th.

Dave Paver came 463rd in the senior men’s race.

Also on Sunday Katy Wood was the 1st woman and 7th overall in the Dalby Dash 10k in 34.56. Allan Scott (39.11), Steve Wright (40.10) Karen Wood (47.17) were all second in their age groups with James Belch (44.08) also running.

12 runners from the club did parkrun over the weekend. Jessica Robertson-Dover (18.49) and sister Sophie (20.09) were 1st and 2nd at Heslington. There were veteran age group wins for Dave Lancaster and Jon Blake and a junior age group win for Josh Reid. Brodie Barrow was first girl at the York Junior parkrun in 8.25.
