Weekly round up – w/e 26th November

Cross Country Racing

Angus McMillan had a fine run in the Liverpool Cross Challenge that also served as a trial for the Great Britain and Northern Ireland team at next month’s European Cross Country Championships that will held in Brussels. Angus came 5th senior and 7th overall as he narrowly missed automatic qualification for the team which was given to the top four places at the trial. Angus must now hope that he is given one of the two discretionary places in the team. Finian Hutchinson, who has re-joined the club, finished in narrowly ahead of James Tucker as they came 107th and 116th respectively. Another new recruit Maddie Mastrolonardo came 99th in the senior women’s race.

In the junior men’s race Gianluca Mastrolonardo was the first of three runners from the club as he came 43rd with Charlie Wright and Ed Brown coming 98th and 116th respectively. In the under 17 women’s race Lottie Langan came 26th.

Will Hardy was the only runner from the club at Hartlepool for the North Yorkshire and South Durham Cross Country League race. Will came 3rd in the under 17 race.

Indoor Track and Field

City of York had seven athletes compete at this winters first indoor event on Sat 25th at Sheffield EIS.

There was an astonishing 11 personal bests delivered by the athletes on the day with Ben Foulger’s 12.21m in the U17 triple jump being the standout of the pack with a club best for his age group in 2023. In the 60m Lily Craske (u13 – 8.41), Louis How (u20 – 7.62), Aidan Hughes (U17 – 7.79) all ran personal bests with Richard Parkinson (SM – 8.19) having a good first outing. Louis How (17.77) and Adian Hughes (18.20) doubled up in the 150m event to run new pb’s as did Mark Bolland-Cage (SM) with a 5:56.93 in the 2000m event. Imogen Bind (u13 – 3.85m) and Lily Craske (u15 – 4.36m) both had a good day with personal bests in their long jump event as did Zoe Bind (u17) in her triple jump (10.03) and her shot of 7.76m.

The next meet will be at Sheffield again on December 9th and we are looking forward to more success for athletes and the club.

Road Racing

Jess Robertson-Dover and Chrissie Dover made their annual visit to Doncaster to run in the popular 10k road race. Normally they run together but that didn’t happen this year as Jess improved her personal best by nearly a minute as she ran 38.06. Jess was 1st in the under 23 age group and 14th overall. Chrissie surprised herself as she broke 40 minutes for the first time this year with 39.49 just 3 weeks after doing a 40 mile ultra in the Yorkshire Wolds. Chrissie’s time was 4th in the vet 45 age group and 20th overall. Jess and Chrissie’s times were also age group club records.

16 members of the club did parkrun over the weekend. Juliet Horne ran a PB to come 1st at Selby in 20.48. Charlotte Mason came 1st at parkrun for the 2nd week in a row as she ran 17.54 at Newcastle Town Moor. Lydia Scott came 2nd at Heslington in 21.23 with Alice Gilday (22.35 at Goole) and Daniel Kennedy (19.49 at Temple Newsam) both coming 3rd. There were veteran age group wins for Peter Hanson, Dave Lancaster and Steve Wright with junior age group wins for Wilson Moisey-Smith and Josh Reid. Brodie Barrow had the unusual distinction of being both 3rd female and 3rd overall as she ran 8.58 in the York Junior parkrun.
