Weekly round up – w/e 3rd December

Cross Country Running

35 juniors and 3 seniors chose to overcome the mist and cold and frost to run in the PECO at Temple Nesam. Always a tough course, but even more on Sunday. All tackled it really well and kept a good spirit in the difficult conditions. They will have gained a lot of fitness and experience from it. Although only 1 or 2 degrees, with no wind it was maybe not as cold as it looked, but the ground was frozen and bumpy for the juniors.

The Primary Age 1 mile had 2 laps with a big hill on each. 168 runners turned out, with Josh Reid 28th, James Hodgkinson 33rd, Sebastian Brown 52nd, and Tom Baxter 93rd. Harriet Brown was a fine 7th of the 72 girls, with Nattida Chaibamrung 13th and Martha Watson in her first race 22nd.

The secondary race had 128 runners and included the steep lane with frozen tractor ruts added in, making it very difficult running. Our girls dominated with Kate Setchell, Isobel Madden, Lucy Davey finishing close together the first 3 girls, with Hannah Lovett 7th girl, Nina Hopkins 14th, Imogen Brown 16th, Lydia Scott 18th, Juliet Horne 23rd, Eliza Loftus 27th, Iris Muinonen-Martin 31st, then a group close together from 36th place Brodie Barrow, Rosie Davies, Katie-Anne Varga, Ava Carter, Carys Briggs, Darcey Eastwood, then Emily Lawrence, Beth Ellerker, Katie Lawrence. Our boys were led by James Bastow in 23rd, then Wilson Moisey-Smith 31st, Leo Forsydyke 38th, Isaac Robson 51st, Alf Ainsworth 56th, Charlie Atkinson 58th, Rafael Palmer 64th, Harry Carrier 65th, Charlie Littlefair 114.

The seniors attracted over 750 runners. As well as the frozen junior route, it added long hills on the golf course and long narrow very muddy sections in woods. And a very deep muddy beck crossing. A very varied and tough course. Our only lady Zoe Cardy, only just old enough to run in this and in her first ever senior race was an amazing 99th of the 311 ladies. For the men, Allan Scott was 156th and Dave Paver 441 of the 453 men.

Icy conditions meant that many parkruns got cancelled or used alternative grass courses. On Saturday there were veteran age group wins for Dave Lancaster and Steve Wright with Josh Reid getting a junior age group win. On Sunday Noah Stipetic came 2nd in the York Junior parkrun in 9.12.

Indoor Track and Field

In the Sheffield Indoor meeting, Imogen Bind won the Under 13 high jump with 1.30m, equal pb.
