Road Running
The club’s senior mens came 12th in the Northern 12 stage road relay championships that were held at Wythenshawe Park in Manchester. The 12 stage is always a supreme test of a club’s strength in depth and organisational skills and it was great that the club was finally able to get a team out in a race that is fiercely contested by the top clubs in the north.
Gianluca Mastrolonardo took on Olympian Jonathan Brownlee and a host of other good runners on the first long leg as he bought the team home in 15th place as he ran the fastest time from the club on the 8k long leg with 24.51. Archie Lawson then ran the first of several good legs on the 4.5k short stage as our younger middle distance track runners enjoyed stretching their legs over the shorter distance. Simon Bolland-Cage took the club into the top ten on the 3rd stage a position the club maintained throughout the middle part of the race. Edan Petrie had an impressive transition onto the roads as he recorded the fastest short stage on leg 8 with a time of 14.11. Dave Burlton bought the team home as he ran a good last leg by holding onto the club’s 12th place with two other teams being within 100 metres on the last stage after nearly four hours of racing.
Lottie Langan came 3rd in the Northern Athletics 5k junior road races that were held in conjunction with the senior relays as she ran a time of 18.13. Charlie Fielding came 16th in 16.40 and William Hardy 33rd in 17.33 in the under 17 men’s race.
Dave Lancaster came 2nd in the vet 65 category at the Coniston 14 miles race despite being under the weather from a recent cold.
Parkrun
Megan Ledden (20.06 at the Knavesmire) and Juliet Horne (21.12 at Selby) both came first at parkrun on Saturday. There were veteran age group wins for Steve Wright and Gary Ibbotson whilst Josh Reid had a junior age group win. Noah Stipetic came 2nd in the York Junior Parkrun with 8.17.
