Weekly Round up – w/e 20th October

Cross Country Racing

The club fielded ten teams in Saturday’s Northern Cross Country Relays that were held in Graves Park, Sheffield on Saturday.

The club’s senior women’s team took bronze medals in what was the club’s first ever medal in a senior women’s championship. Lottie Langan, running her first senior championship, came 5th on the first leg with Ellie Rainbow improving the club’s position to 2nd on the next leg. Jessica Robertson-Dover ran a good anchor leg but was passed late on by Birtley’s Lydia Turner who has run for Great Britain in the European Cross Country Championships. The senior men, missing lots of runners had a good performance to come 11th.

The club’s under 17 teams again had top ten finishes as the women’s teams came 6th and the men’s team 7th.

18 runners in the U13 and U15 boys and girls categories travelled down to Graves Park in Sheffield for the Northern Athletics Cross Country Relays on Saturday. For the U13s it was their first experience of championship cross country relays with Rafael Palmer, Noah Stipetic and Alf Ainsworth finishing 19th out of 31 boys teams and Marianne Lowson, Harriet Brown and Kaitlin Storrie finishing 18th out of 35 girls teams.

In the U15 Oscar Walker, the ever versatile Kai Liversidge and James Bastow finished 16th out of 25 boys teams.

There were 3 teams in the U15 Girls event (29 teams in total) headed by a great performance by Beth Lewis (fastest time of the day), Lucy Davey and Hannah Lovett. They managed to edge out 2022 U13 Girls champions Birtley AC and take the bronze medal by 7 seconds – well done girls!”

We also had Imogen Brown, Emily Rycroft and Nina Hopkins finishing 13th team, and Kate Wilcock, Isla Watson and Bea Thompson 18th team.

Road Racing

Katy Wood won the 10 mile race that was staged in conjunction with the Yorkshire Marathon on Sunday. Despite the race being held in wet and windy conditions Katy won by well over two minutes in a time of 56.23 that was only 14 seconds outside her own club record that was set in February at Pocklington. Karen Wood improved her vet 55 club record by 32 seconds with 73.59. Allan Scott ran a PB of 63.02 as he improved his own club vet 45 record by 43 seconds. Jason Reubenheimer (58.20), Jack Ford (60.38), Peter Hanson (70.38), India Ibbotson (79.01) and Laurie Parker (83.59) also ran.

Chrissie Dover ran a PB of over two minutes in the Yorkshire Marathon that was held in conjunction with the 10 miles race. Chrissie ran 3 hours 13 minutes and 14 seconds to improve her own vet 45 club record that was set in London in April. Tim Pattison broke the 3 hours mark with 2.57.50.

Sunday, the day of the wind and rain, 4 of ours reappeared in search of cash prizes to take part in the Yorkshire Coast 5k at Scarborough. The out and back route started from the Spa, along the car-free south bay to the turning point just on the north side of the castle. The runners were confronted by gale force winds and heavy rain on their return around the headland which resulted in times being perhaps a minute slower than normal. James Bastow was 1st U15 Boy in 18:50, Hannah Lovett 2nd U15 Girl in 20:37, Imogen Brown 3rd U15 Girl in 21:27 with Harriet Brown 2nd U13 Girl in 22.46.

Parkrun

11 runners from the club did parkrun over the weekend. Charlotte Grieve came 1st at the North Yorkshire Water park near Scarborough in 18.27. There were also veteran age group wins for Jon Blake, Dave Lancaster, Steve Wright and Julie Mastrolonoardo.
