Weekly Round up – w/e 15th December

Road Racing

Angus McMillan and Katy Wood both broke the club 10k road race records as they ran 29.05 and 33.29 in today’s Telford 10k. Angus, running in his first 10k road race, took nearly a minute of the old club record that was held by Olympic triathlete Sam Dickinson with Katy taking 35 seconds off her own club record that she ran in the Leeds Abbey Dash just over a year ago. Angus and Katy both finished in 8th place in the strongest field in a British 10k road race.

Tommy Shaw, also running his first 10k road race ran 30.53 to move into third place in the club 10k road race rankings with James Tucker just missing on his PB by six seconds with 31.09. Adam Bateman took over two minutes of his old PB that was due to serious revision with 32.19, just ahead of Simon Bolland-Cage who ran 32.26. Another debutant in a 10k road race, Ed Brown, ran a very creditable 32.46.

Dave Lancaster was the first vet 65 in the hilly Traveller 6 race at Denby Dale near Barnsley.

Indoor Track and Field

City of York AC held an indoor competition at EIS Sheffield on Sunday. The day was composed of many individual track and field events and pentathlon competitions. The day was well supported by our own and other local athletes and officials and was a huge success with over 200 athletes able to enjoy this fantastic venue. There were many very good early season performances which will help prepare athletes for the main indoor season which runs from January to March. A big thank you to the officials, coaches, parents and athletes for supporting this event. It will be back, bigger and better in December 2025.

Cross Country Racing

18 junior distance runners decided to continue their cross country season rather than compete indoors on the track as they took part in the third race in the PECO cross country league at Middleton Park in Leeds. The PECO junior races are a bit different to other cross country races with all the under 16s running in the same two miles race with all under 11s doing the one mile race. In the two miles races James Bastow was 5th ahead of Wilson Moisey-Smith in 8th place with George Ghosh running a good race against much older runners to come 16th. Hannah Lovett was the first female runner from the club in 3rd place about 100 metres ahead of Lucy Davey who was 6th. Scarlett Bycroft was the second girl in the under 11 race.

parkrun

10 runners from the club did parkrun over the weekend. 12 year old Marianne Lowson was a very impressive winner of the Heslington parkrun in 20.32. India Ibbotson came 3rd in Plymouth with 21.56. There were veteran age group wins for Steve Wright and Dave Lancaster with Bethany Ellerker getting a junior age group win.
