Cross Country Racing
Angus McMillan and Katy Wood won the senior titles in Saturday’s Yorkshire Cross Country Championships that were held at the usual venue of Lightwater Valley Theme Park near Ripon.
Angus won the senior men’s title for the third year in succession but was given a hard race by Hallamshire’s Tommy Power and it was only on the last lap that Angus pulled away to win by just over 50 metres. It was a double success in the senior men’s race as the team of Angus McMillan, Simon Bolland-Cage, James Tucker, Mark Bolland-Cage, Oskar Fraser-Krauss and Jack Ford repeated the team bronze medals from last year.
Katy Wood regained the senior women’s title that she last won in 2014. Katy pulled away from the field towards the end of the first of four laps and built up a comfortable lead of 50 metres that she held to the finish. Lottie Langan came 2nd in the under 20 race that was held within the senior race but finished a lap early.
In the junior races Isaac Stabler came 5th in the under 17 men’s race as he combined with William Hardy and Louis Richardson to take the bronze medals in the team race. Isobel Madden in 11th place led home the under 17 women’s team who came 5th. Hannah Lovett was the leading runner from the club in the under 15 girl’s race as she came 7th with the team coming 4th. The leading runners in the other junior races were Ed Brown (6th under 20), James Bastow (12th under 15), George Ghosh (14th under 13) and Harriett Brown (26th under 13).
The 4th race in the PECO Cross Country League that was due to take place near Wetherby on Sunday was cancelled due to the snow.
Fell Racing
Louis Richardson was 2nd in the junior event of the Captain Cook’s Fell Races that took place on New Year’s Day. Luis’ dad Phil came 145th in the senior race.
Parkrun
11 runners from the club did parkrun on Saturday. Jessica Robertson-Dover edged closer to the 18 minute barrier as she ran 18.01 to win at Hull with mum Chrissie coming 3rd in 19.29. Tommy Shaw blasted round the Knavesmire to win in 15.31 with India Ibbotson coming 2nd at Pontefract in 24.12. There were junior age group wins for Sophie Robertson-Dover and Bethany Ellerker with Dave Lancaster getting a veteran age group win.
Unbelievably the York Junior Parkrun took place on Sunday despite 3 inches of snow on the Knavesmire. Noah Stipetic and Josh Reid defied the conditions by coming 1st and 2nd.
