Indoor Track and Field
The English Institute of Sport in Sheffield was once again the venue for the Northern Indoor Championships on Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th January.
City of York AC had 23 athletes taking part with plenty of success across the weekend. The outstanding highlights of the weekend were:
Ben Foulger had a Super Saturday winning two gold medals in the U17 long jump and triple jump in the space of a few hours. Ben jumped a new PB of 6.57m in the long jump and then followed this up with a jump of 13.75m in the triple jump.
Rob Shipley was second in the senior men’s 400m on Saturday and then returned on Sunday to win gold in the 800m in a very well-judged race.
Rosie Hickling claimed the gold medal in the U20 60m hurdles. Emily Maude won gold in the U20 long jump. Tommy Shaw won gold in the senior men’s 1500m. Zoe Bind won gold in the U17 triple jump with a fantastic PB of 11.06m.
Adam Pearson won silver in the U20 200m. Zack Cumberland won silver in the U20 400m. Frances Hogg won bronze in the senior women’s 400m with a PB of 57.01. Chelsea Walker won bronze in the senior women’s 60m hurdles. Neve Eddon won bronze in the U20 60m hurdles. Sophie Robertson-Dover won bronze in the U20 800m.
Congratulations to all athletes, their families and their coaches for the performances over the course of two very long days of competition and also great to see John and Alison Moreland once again bringing their expertise to the officiating side of the championships.
Cross Country Racing
Running for Loughborough University Gianluca Mastrolonardo came 5th in the first division of the Birmingham Cross Country League to earn a place in Loughborough’s A team for the BUCS cross country championships that take place early next month.
The North Yorkshire Schools and Humberside Cross Country Championships that were both due to take place last weekend were both cancelled due to snow and ice.
Parkrun
Nationally there were over 400 parkruns cancelled on Saturday due to the ice with the parkrun on the Knavesmire being one of the few local ones to take place. India Ibbotson came 3rd at Beverley in 22.25. There were veteran age group wins for Steve Wright, Dave Lancaster and Julie Mastrolonardo with junior age group wins for Wilson Moisey-Smith and Josh Reid.
