Cross Country Racing
Gianluca Mastrolonardo ran the race of his life to come 3rd in the Under 20 National Cross Country Championships that were held at a very muddy and hilly Hampstead Heath in London. Gianluca was always in the lead group that slowly reduced in number during the race. Aldershot’s Matthew Pickering made his move on the 2nd of two laps to win the race with Gianluca lying 4th on the steep muddy descent into the finish before rallying to take the bronze medal. Ed Brown came 95th in the same race. Lottie Langan ran well in the junior women’s race to place 17th with James Bastow coming 124th in the under 15 boy’s race.
The course conditions were at their worst in the senior races that are held at the end of the meeting with the senior men finishing a respectable 33rd in the team event which was the 4th team from the north in a race dominated by clubs and runners from the south. Angus McMillan led the way home in 21st with Oskar Fraser-Krauss running very well to come 128th in a race that wouldn’t have suited middle distance track runners. Simon Bolland-Cage came 211th, Mo Calton-Seal 252nd, Mark Bolland-Cage 353rd and Mike Raynes 1,399th to make up the team. Martha Calton-Seal came 179th in the senior women’s race with Therese Jansson in her last race for the club before moving to Denmark coming 311th.
Road Racing
In her first race for the club, Laura Thompson broke the club 10 miles record on the road as she ran 60.36 to place 4th overall and 1st vet 35 in the Snake Lane 10 miles race that was held on Sunday in windy conditions at Pocklington. John Lewis (74.01), India Ibbotson (76.36) and Rachel Bruford (81.19) also took part.
Dave Lancaster was the 1st over 60 runner in the Stanley Park in a time of 45.10.
