The EIS in Sheffield was once again the venue for the age group combined events championships.

Juliette M finished 5th with personal bests in hurdles and high jump and Juliette C finished in 7th place with a personal best in the hurdles of 8.94 seconds and the second fastest time of the day. In fact, the 3 girls were the 2nd, 3rd and 4th fastest hurdlers in the competition. Imogen is in her first year in this age group and produced 5 good performances which included 2 personal bests in the shot and long jump to finish in 25th place.

Cross Country Racing

Six of the club’s distance runners took part in the Inter Counties Cross Country Championships at Wollaton Park in Nottingham on a superb spring day on Saturday. Angus McMillan finished a long winter season as he came 11th in the senior men’s race as he helped Yorkshire get a bronze medal in the team race. In the senior women’s race Ellie Rainbow (129th) narrowly finished ahead of Chrissie Dover in 133rd.  In the junior races Beth Lewis ran superbly in the under 15 girls race as she moved through the field to come 6th with Hannah Lovett coming 82nd. Lottie Langan was the leading Yorkshire runner as she came 17th in the under 20 race.

Some club teams organised themselves to contest the PECO Relays at a park in Leeds on Sunday. It attracted 90 teams of youngsters of all ages on a toughish course. Excellent runs for our boys team James Bastow, Ewan Robertson and Oscar Walker gave them 2nd place and only 11 seconds behind a strong Bingley team who were led off by an older junior who was 17th in the Under 17 Inter Counties the day before, and is a 15.30 5k runner. Ours worked hard in chasing, and a sign of the strength that they were nearly 2 minutes in front of the third finishers. And inspired runs by our Under 11s Leonardo Matusiak, Harper Newcombe, and Scarlet Bycroft who really applied themselves to finish 12th of the 90 teams, and well ahead of the other Under 11 teams, and ahead of some good older juniors. From the other teams, Hannah Lovett followed her good run in the Inter Counties by being 3rd fastest girl overall. Good to have ours organising themselves and enjoying the relay format.

Eve Standen finished 2nd in the under 13 girls NYSD League race, in a beautiful setting on the moorland above Richmond. Katie Lawrence came 8th in the same race. Joel Hutchinson won the Under 15 Boys, and finished second in the League series this season.

Road Racing

Laura Thompson in her 2nd race for the club set her second vet 35 club record as she ran 82.54 in the Cambridge Half Marathon. Dave Lancaster was 1st vet 65 in the very hilly Todmorden 10k in 47.26.

Parkrun

19 runners from the club did parkrun on Saturday. William Keens got another win at Easingwold in 17.45 with India Ibbotson 2nd female in 22.54. Lucy Davey came first at Chevin Forest in 21.53 with Simon Bolland-Cage coming 2nd on the Knavesmire in 15.48. There were veteran age group wins for Dave Lancaster, Julie Mastrolonardo, Steve Wright, John Lewis, Steve Wright and Phil Richardson with junior age group wins for Lydia Scott, Louis Richardson, Bethany Ellerker and Noah Stipetic.
