The club’s senior men secured their third successive top-ten finish in the Northern Cross Country Relays at Graves Park, Sheffield on Saturday. A club record nine team took part in the championships, with York’s under 11 boys and girls producing their best junior results.
Alex Botterill finished 13th on the opening senior men’s leg, clocking 11mins 7secs for the 2-mile course. Angus McMillan then showed he is back to near his best form after a knee injury by running 10.42, which was the seventh fastest time of the day and took York up to fifth. Solid runs from Kyle McLeay (12.16) and Luca Parker (11.28) ensured an eighth-placed finish, while the club’s B team came 34th.
Daniel Campbell (5.07) got York off to a strong start in the under 11 boys’ race over 1.5km, clocking the second fastest leg of the day. Daniel Kennedy (5.20) and James Hargreaves (5.54) saw the team home in fifth. The under 11 girls’ race over the same distance saw Lucy Gilbertson (5.36), Annabelle Coxon (5.44) and Kate Setchell (6.07) earn seventh place for York’s A team. York’s under 11 girls’ B team of Sophie Williams (6.05), Molly Skelton (6.11) and Emily Rycroft (6.38) were 16th. Lottie Langan recorded the seventh fastest time of the day in the under 13 girls’ event, with a 6.02 clocking over a 1.8km course. Martha Sigworth (6.45) and Katie-Ann Varga (7.41) completed the team who finished 22nd.

The under 15 boys’ line-up of Luca Mastrolonardo (7.28), Ed Brown (8.09) and Louie How (7.52) took 14th in their race over 2km. In the equivalent girls race, Isobel Nicholls (8.39), Georgia Wood (9.48) and Libby Courtney (9.47) secured 36th place.
Meanwhile, George Phillips was York’s leading performer in the Yorkshire 10 Mile race on Sunday. Phillips finished fifth in a personal best time of 55mins 47secs. Ed Dunn 64mins 38secs, Mike Raynes 67mins 0secs, Russell Hampshire 68 mins 50secs and Donna Gold 94 mins 49 secs also ran with the men’s team coming 5th in the team race.
Wesley Possible led the way for York’s men in the Yorkshire Marathon, clocking 3hrs 20mins 12secs, with Lucy Holland (3.37.39) their leading lady. Alex Boynton (3.25.23) and Diane Zbadynski (5.19.11) also completed the course.
The club had 12 runners doing parkrun on Saturday with 5 members finishing in the top 3 places. Charlotte Mason had another first place in 19.07 at Roundhay Park with Emma Ballantyne coming 2nd in 19.44 just down the road at Hyde Park. Tommy Shaw was the fastest parkrunner from the club with 16.36 in 3rd place. Joe O’Brian 2nd in 17.59 at Castle Howard and William Keens 3rd in 19.47 at Easingwold also finished high up at their parkrun. There was no York junior parkrun this week due to the York Marathon taking place on the same day.
