The club produced three impressive team displays in the Saucony English National Cross Country Relays at Berry Hill Park, Mansfield. The wet and muddy conditions meant it was hard going under foot, but York’s junior men adapted well to finish 10th. Luca Parker clocked 9mins 28secs for the opening 3km leg, handing over in 26th place. Alex Botterill (9.32) took York up to 18th before Angus McMillan (9.18) sealed the top-10 finish.
Fielding what was probably their strongest team possible, York’s senior men secured a club best 32nd place. Dan Cheeseman ran the slightly shorter opening 5km leg in 16.56 to place 29th. His start was consolidated on the last three legs by the consistent running of George Phillips (18.36), Alex Dickinson (18.40) and Tim Stratton (18.25). James Palmer (22.19) and Mike Raynes (23.00) ran in an incomplete B team. York’s senior women also had a strong showing to place 45th as Charlotte Mason ran a storming opening 3k leg in 11.09. Ella Eadon (13.32) and Megan Ledden (13.31) ran within 0.45 seconds of each other on the last two legs.
Our primary school athletes had outstanding results in their North Yorkshire Schools Cross Country in the cold, wet and muddy conditions at Dalby Forest. Many had been training and focusing on this event, and showed great determination and character in the conditions.
After years of high placings but being beaten by the same athlete, Daniel Campbell continued his recent good form to overturn this and win his last year in this event with a very well judged race and finish. This Year 6 race also saw Charlie Blades 3rd and Daniel Kennedy 6th. In the Year 6 girls, Annabelle Coxon had a great run to finish 3rd, with Sophie Williams running very well for 9th.
The Year 5 girls were well to the front, and came in with Emma Hutton 2nd, Molly Skelton 3rd, Nina Hopkins 4th, then 5th and 6th were “waiting list” athletes who have been training with us for this race.
In the Year 4 race, Evie Glaves was 11th.
Five members took part in the Guy Fawkes 10 mile race which takes place near Knaresborough. Russell Hampshire was fastest from the club in 72.00 with Tony George (81.06), Emily Hand (103.47), Annie George (103.56) and Diane Zbadynski (109.17) also running.
11 of our members did parkrun over the weekend. Gianluca Mastrolonardo won for the 2nd week in a row at Dalby Forest as he ran 18.01. The Keens were again to the fore at Easingwold as William came 2nd in 20.17 with Kaitlin 3rd in 24.04. Meanwhile in Kuala Lumpar George Summerson came 3rd in 21.12. Joshua Cochrane was our leading runner in the York Junior parkrun on Sunday with 9.23.
