Christmas round up

The distance running side of the sport doesn’t stop over Christmas with several of our members taking part in parkruns or races over the festive season.

We had a good representation at the Jolly Holly Jog, a tough 10k trail race at Ripon which is very popular with 800 finishers There were outstanding results from some of our juniors who had entered as a challenge and a long run. Led home by Joe O’Brien, who was 12th overall and the first school age finisher in 39m 25. The girls also did well, with Issie Nicholls (47m 30, 2nd Junior), Katie Brennan (48m, 3rd Junior) and Issie O’Brien (52m). For the Seniors, Alex Boynton ran just under 45 mins, Barry O’Brien 49m 30, also Dave Paver, Helen Bowerman, and Jayne Batt.

Several of our members had good finishes over the Christmas and New Year period in local parkruns. On the 21st December Charlotte Mason came 1st at York (18.04) whilst Libby Brown came first at Harrogate (21.39). Ella Eadon also cane 2nd at Wetherby in 23.04. The popular Christmas parkrun at York had first places for both Tim Stratton (16.08) and Charlotte Mason (17.29) with Alex Dickinson coming 3rd in 16.12. On the 28th December Tim Stratton came first again at Easingwold in 16.59 with Martha Carlton-Seal came 1st at Dalby Forest in 18.09 where there was a welcome return for Maurice Calton-Seal in 18.07 for 3rd. Well done to 4 of our members that did the double header by doing both York and Heslington on New Year’s Day.

Some members chose the hills and variety of the Temple Newsam Park Run for New Years Day. Membership Sec Paul Goble was 26th, then Lucy Gaskin and Zoe Cardy just inside 24 mins and the first 2 Under 20 Females, Aimee Keefe in 24m 24 as the second Primary School Age, and Sophia Horsfall-Samb as third Primary Age, and at age 9 in the top half of the whole field.
