Weekly report – w/e 16th February

The indoor season took centre stage this weekend as our cross country runners prepared themselves for the national championships which take place over the next month.

Alex Botterill was rewarded for his fine recent progress as he got to run the 800m in the televised Muller Indoor Grand Prix at Glasgow. Alex ran a sensible race and finished strongly to run 1.47.77s just 5/100ths of a second outside his outdoor PB. It was also great to see Alex wearing his City of York vest in an international meeting.

The BUCS indoor championships also took place this weekend at Sheffield. Charlotte Stamp just missed out on the 400m final by one place as she clocked a PB of 56.81s in the semi final. Tom Wood also exited in the 400m semi final with 51.24s. Other members of the club that competed included Molly Newton O’Brien who came 9th in the high jump with 1.66m and 5.09m in the long jump, Alice Linekar 9.62s in the 60m hurdles, 4.70m in the long jump and 1.45m in the high jump, Jack Medforth 7.42s in the 60m, Sola Sowole 8.11s in the 60m, Megan Looney 27.07s in the 200m and 10.60m in the triple jump and Lily Horsfield 10.40m in the triple jump.

Poor weather didn’t deter the club’s parkrunners as 20 of our members ran one this weekend. Joe O’Brien was first at Dalby Forest in 16.36 with Tim Stratton also coming first at Easingwold in 18.35. Young Lucy Gilbertson ran well to come 3rd at Heslington in 20.32. Zoe Cardy (8.35) and Emily Rycroft (9.02) were the first two runners across the line in the York junior parkrun.
