A busy weekend for our athletes in Sheffield at the English Open Age Group Championships and at the British Indoor Championships in Glasgow.
Some of our youngsters enjoyed an outing in their first English Nationals with excellent performances by William Meigh, Frances Hogg and Emily Maud. Amy Rolfe looked strong in the under 20 long jump but the star York performer was Louis How with a superb silver medal in the u15 boys 800m.
The British indoor senior championships is by invitation only based upon season’s best performances. The City of York star of the how was once again Scott Lincoln who this weekend amassed his 10th national title. York athletes on the big stage this weekend were Alex Botterill and Rob Shipley who were both on the receiving end of the ‘rough and tumble’ often witnessed indoors. Ryan Gorman the York based sprinter reached a very loaded semi final. We are proud of all who competed indoors and out it bodes well for the summer season.
The National Cross Country Championships took place today in Nottingham last Saturday. Always one of the great club days of the year as club runners from all over the country come together come together to share their love of club cross country running. After all the recent rain the course was very muddy although it did have a couple of faster stretches on each lap. Well done to those that ran, I hope you have managed to clean off all the mud. Angus McMillan was the leading performer from the club with 14th place in the under 20 men’s race whilst Lottie Langan came 24th in the under 13 girl’s race. The other runners from the club to run include: Under 13 girl’s Laura Brooks (131st) and Martha Sigsworth (232nd), Under 13 Boys’s William Chalk (180th), Under 15 Boys Gianluca Mastrolonardo (127th), Under 20 Men, Kyle McLeay (181st) Senior Women: Charlotte Mason (88th) and Libby Brown (207th), Senior Men: George Phillips (241st), Alex Dickinson (321st), Giles Chalk (661st), Ed Mezzetti (1003rd) and Mike Raynes (1104th) The club didn’t complete any teams with the under 13 girls and senior men coming closest as they were just one runner short.
Well done to all who stood up to the plate of National competition.
