Weekly report – w/e 8th March

Club members from either end of the age spectrum achieved team success at the UK Inter Counties and Yorkshire Veteran Cross Country Championships this weekend. There was no action for our track and field athletes who are waiting for the outdoor season to start.

The club had 5 athletes representing Yorkshire, and 2 for Humberside, in the UK Inter County Cross Country on a sticky and demanding course at Prestwold, Leicestershire. In the Under 13 Girls, out of 300, Lottie Langan was 37th and Amy Kennedy 39th as Yorkshire finished 2nd in the team. We also had Laura Brooks 138th and Lucy Gilbertson, who is only Year 6, 214th representing Humberside. Our club 4 would have finished 22nd out of 40 County teams! beating Essex and Merseyside. In the Under 17 race, Martha Calton-Seal was 32nd For the boys, Joe O’Brien was 63rd in the Under 17 and Luca Mastrolonardo 166th in the Under 15.

The Yorkshire Veteran Cross Country Championships were held at a hilly Longley Park in Sheffield. Giles Chalk, Ed Mezzetti and Mike Raynes combined to be 3rd team in the m40 to m49 age group. Individually Giles and Ed came 8th and 12th respectively in the m40 category whilst Mike was 11th in the m45 category. Helen Wilkinson stepped up well in distance to be 4th in the F35 age group with Peter Hanson and Andy Normandale came 9th in the M50 and M60 races.

At Lightwater Valley, Issie Nicholls had a good run to finish 2nd lady in the 10k, in 44.29. In the Junior 3k, William Keens was 2nd to an older junior, and Emily Rycroft had a good run to finish 4th. Dave Lancaster was first m60 in the Llandudno 10k in a time of 43.15. 13 of our members did parkrun this weekend.

Tim Stratton once again came 1st at Easingwold in 17.45 whilst Toby Antcliff came 2nd at Dalby Forest in 17.42. Sally Wade was the quickest female parkrunner in the club in 23.57. Josh Cochrane was the only member of the club to do the York junior parkrun as he ran 9.13.
