Weekly Report – w/e 15th March

Nine of our junior athletes took part in the English Schools Cross Country Championships that took place at Sefton Park in Liverpool. Joe O’Brien, who is developing into a fine cross country runner , was the leading runner from the club as he came 27th in the Intermediate Boy’s race with Tommy Shaw coming 191st in the same race. Lucas Stabler in 37th place also had a great race in the Junior Boys’s event. In the Senior Boy’s race Archie Lawson came 160th and Toby Antcliff 216th. Lottie Langan completed a long cross country season by coming 69th in the Junior Girl’s race. Issy Nicholls (149th) and Inez Khaddi (244th) competed in the Intermediate Girl’s race whilst Holly Moss came 246th in the Senior Girl’s event.

Our talented multi events athletes were busy this weekend proudly representing the Club in the North East Counties and the English indoors pentathlon Championships. Four youngsters competed in the National age group Champs in Sheffield with superb placings by Frances Hogg (7) Esme Pounder (11th) Kathryn Clague (18th) and Isaac Hensen (12th). Further north in Gateshead at the NECAA Champs there was a strong Green and Black presence with silver medals for Becky Lister, Leah Atack and Emily Maude and great overall performances by Abi Sorrell, Rosie Hickling, Will Hickling, Ella Wright and Louisa Birch.

Martha Calton-Seal won the latest race in the York 5k series on a blustery evening last Thursday at the York University cycle circuit. Martha won by over a minute from York University student Claire Jones in a time of 18.01. Martha’s brother Maurice made a welcome return to racing as he came 2nd to York University student, Alex Doyle in a time of 16.06. Alex Dickinson was narrowly beaten by superb veteran Guy Bracken as he came 5th in 16.39. Gianluca Mastrolonardo (17.41) and Ed Brown (19.25) were the first two juniors in the race. The times of other runners from the club who ran were: Jasper Baker (17.22), Steve Asquith (17.33), Danny Figg (17.57), Jake Higginbottom (18.21), Aaron Poole (18.26), Will Butler (19.01), Samuel Thygessen (21.01) Alice Steele (21.03) & Rachel Ayrton (22.15).

As road races start to be cancelled the Thirsk 10 miles race managed to take place. Four runners from the club took part with the following times being recorded: Ed Dunn (68.26), Dave Lancaster (73.39), Laurie Parker (78.50) and John Farrall (101.19). In the Wheelchair event Tiaan Bosch completed the course in 43.31.

18 of our members ran parkrun this weekend. William Keens was the star of the show as he came 1st at Easingwold in 19.38, his sister Kaitlin came 2nd female in 22.42. Dan Cheeseman also came 1st as he ran a good time of 15.48 at Fountains Abbey when he was back home. Other top 3 finishes included Mike Raynes 2nd at Beverley in 21.25 and Amy Kennedy 3rd at the Knavesmire in 19.24. Emily Rycroft meanwhile was 1st girl at the York Junior Parkrun in 8.31. Other parkrun times from the club were as follows: Knavesmire: Kyle McLeay 18.48, Andy Richardson 20.00, Ed Brown 20.48, Isaac Morris 21.07, Wesley Possible 22.09 Heslington: George Summerson 20.23, Sally Wade 24.10, Donna Gold 30.33 Woodhouse Moor, Leeds: Airlie Mason 22.53 Todmorden: Dave Lancaster 21.48 Easingwold: Tim Stratton 21.05 York Junior Parkrun: Joshua Cochrane (9.20).
