York University 5k and Elvington Airfield Races

The club turned the York University Cycle Circuit green and black in last Friday’s 5k road race as the club’s juniors, seniors and even committee members put in a series of great performances. It was great to see so many smiling faces as runners finally got to put their racing shoes back on.

Joe O’Brien ran a superb 14.47 as he came 2nd after a great battle with Callum Elson of Roundhay Runners. James Tucker (15.33), Gianluca Mastrolonardo (15.49) and Tommy Shaw (15.49) also came in the top ten. Further down the field the club Chair Don McMillan put in a great performance to run 18.02. This means that Don is the fastest V60 runner over 5k in the country so far this year, even if it is early days for the annual national rankings.

Charlotte Mason put in another personal best performance as she came 2nd in 16.43. This is also a club record for 5k as Charlotte improved her own record by 12 seconds. Lottie Langan was the next female across the line with a superb 17.12. This is the 2nd fastest ever time by a female City of York female runner over 5k. This time is also the 4th fastest so far this year in the country by an under 15 girl over 5k. Izzi O’Brien also continued her improvement with 17.47 to come 5th. Young Lucy Gilbertson put in an impressive performance to ‘win’ the first of the three races on the night in a time of 20.10.
