A great day for athletics in Middlesbrough on Sunday 9th May with over 30 athletes from City of York AC making the journey North. The showers that were forecast never arrived and although it was a little blustery at times, this largely worked in the athletes favour.
There were a huge number of PB’s on the day from almost every performance and this really shows the tremendous form in which CoYAC athletes have started the season.
There were two outstanding performances of the day: Archie Wright (U13) threw 31.92m in the javelin to break a 20 year-old club record by over 2 metres and put him second in the UK rankings. Meanwhile, Emily Maude jumped 5.65m in the U15 girls long jump to break the club record. She is now ranked number 1 in the UK, ranked in the top 50 best UK long jumps of all time by an U15 girl and it is the best jump by an U15 girl since 2018.
Two amazing performances – well done to those athletes and all others who represented City of York AC with such enthusiasm and ability again today.
In other competitons over the weekend Scott Lincoln took the bronze medal at the European Throwing Cup in Croatia with 20.25m. Meanwhile at Saturday’s British Miler’s Club meeting in Manchester Alex Botterill (1.47.09) and Angus McMillan (14.17.28) came close to breaking club records in the 800m and 5000m respectively. Dan Cheeseman also ran 3.53.59 for the 1500m at the same meeting.
Several City of York AC athletes were in action at a very wet Costello Stadium in Hull on Saturday. The outstanding performance of the day was from Maria Schofield who threw the Hammer 53.00m to set a new PB and senior ladies club record.
