Track and Field
The English Schools Athletics Association Track & Field National finals were held in Manchester last weekend with 25 athletes representing North Yorkshire – 15 of those from City of York AC.
The senior athlete’s competition was on Friday 9th July and Joseph O’Brien kicked it all off with a win in the 3000m in a personal best time of 8:20.82. Next up was Luke Robinson who finished 12th in the Senior Boys Javelin with a throw of 49.23m Finally, Joe’s sister Izzi O’Brien finished 5th in the 1500m steeplechase with a PB of 5:08.25.
City of York AC athlete Lukas Bradshaw was representing Humberside and finished 11th in the discus with a throw of 38.55m.
Saturday 10th July was the Inter Girls and Boys competition. In the 300m hurdles Frances Hogg finished 4th with a time of 45.41 and Sonya Chechik finished 10th with a personal best time of 47.79. In the 400m hurdles Isaac Henson finished 11th with a PB of 63.28. In the 1500m steeplechase Charlie Wright finished 6th in a time of 4:53.43. In the shot put Aaron Rutter threw 12.65m to finish 6th.
Sunday 11th July was the junior girls and boys competition. Grace Green-Hemmings finished in 13th place in the javelin with a throw of 29.21m. Kathryn Clague finished 4th in the Shot Put with a throw of 10.93m. Lewis Rutter finished 12th in the javelin with a throw of 37.12m. Esme Pounder finished 10th in the high jump with a clearance of 1.51m. Lottie Langan finished 3rd in the 800m in a time of 2:14.99. Emily Maude finished 2nd in the long jump with a leap of 5.61m.
City of York AC athlete Freya Vidal was representing Humberside and finished 4th in the 200m with a time of 25.67.
Lucy Hadaway on winning a bronze medal in the European Under 23 Championships at Tallin in Estonia. Lucy jumped a PB of 6.63m to earn the bronze medal.
Off track Distance Races
On Tuesday teams from the club took part in the Golden Acre Park Relay near Eccup Reservoir. Held over 3 legs of 2.75 miles the club’s senior women led the women’s race from start to finish to break the course record by nearly two minutes. Katy Wood was just 7 seconds off the women’s course record with Charlotte Mason being 2nd fastest female on the night. It was also good to see Emma Ballantyne back running again after giving birth to her son. The senior women also completed a B team which came 10th whilst a senior men’s team came 16th.
The junior girls team of Ellie Johnson, Martha Sigsworth and Amy Kennedy led the junior race from start to finish whilst a mixed team of juniors came 37th overall. A junior girls’ B team came 20th female team.
In the under 11 event a mixed team of Isobel Madden, Charlie Blades and Daniel Campbell crossed the line in first place whilst Lucy Gilbertson, Kate Setchell and Annabelle Coxon were the first all girls team to finish. The club’s ‘older girl’s B team also came 3rd in their category.
Dave Lancaster ran 44.24 in Friday night’s Walkington 10k.
