Track and Field

The club maintained its 100% record in YDL meetings for 2021 as both the YDL Upper and Lower teams won their latest fixtures on July 25th and July 17th respectively. Full reports will follow.

Angus McMillan ran 14.15.73 over 5000m at Loughborough in the BMC meeting as he edged ever closer to the long standing club record of 14.10.04 for the distance. Joe O’Brien decimated the under 20 record for the distance with 14.29.95 as he took more than 50 seconds off the old club record.

Off Track Distance Races

Katy Wood won the latest 5k race on the York University Cycle Circuit on July 16th as she ran 17.01 to defeat her namesake Emma by 41 seconds. Danny Figg (18.24), Ed Mezzetti (18.29), Ben Thompson (18.44), Ed Dunn (19.55)., Miles Watson (20.20) and Karen Wood (22.57) also ran.

Three of our members took part in the Yorkshire Wolds Half Marathon on July 17th. A very difficult half marathon with a 3 mile climb to the finish was made even harder by very hot conditions with the winning time ‘only’ being 1.26. Wesley Possible ran 1.49.35 which was good enough for 20th place whilst Ciaran Murray (2.03.02) and Tony George (2.23.32) also completed the course.

Ed Mezzetti was racing again on July 20th as he ran 68.57 in the Vale of York 10 miles race on a warm evening.

Parkrun finally resumed on July 24th with 14 of our members taking part in the 5k event. The Keens dominated the Easingwold event with William winning in 18.05 with sister Kaitlin coming 2nd in 23.54 to Tabby Todd who ran 21.01. The Keens also did the 2k junior parkrun on the Knavesmire on Sunday with William breaking the course record with 6.38 and Kaitlin being next across the line in 7.53. Katy Wood also came 1st at Hyde Park in Leeds with 18.01.
