Off track distance races
The final race in the West Yorkshire Cross Country League took place on a new course at Oulton off the south east corner of Leeds. A good course with a steady climb each lap was made very muddy by the recent rain. The club again did well with 34 runners taking part. We had 4 individual winners and 3 team wins.
Senior Men – 1st Team. Good packing saw the club comfortably win the team race. Tim Stratton led the club home in 10th place just ahead of Alex Dickinson in 12th, James Tucker in 13th and Tommy Shaw in 15th. Mark Cage in 25th and Steve Asquith in 33rd completed the team with Mike Raynes (91st) also running. In the overall standings Tommy Shaw was 3rd under 20 and Steve Asquith 3rd in the Vet 40 age group. Unfortunately the club didn’t complete a team in the overall standings because we failed to complete a team in the 1st race.
Senior Women – 3rd Team. Katy Wood pulled away from Knavesmire’s Becky Penty in the 2nd half of the race to win by around 100 metres. Angharad Pryce (22nd), Emma Ballantyne (31st) Terese Jansson (34th) and Karen Wood (51st) also took part.
Under 17 Men – Gianluca Mastrolonardo came 3rd with Ed Brown coming 7th.
Under 17 Women – Jessica Robertson-Dover came 9th.
Under 15 Boys – A good run saw William Keens come 2nd not far behind the winner. This also meant that William came 3rd in the overall standings. Isaac Bastow in 9th place also ran. Despite not completing a team on the day the club won the team event in the overall standings.
Under 15 Girls – 1st Team. Another good turnout from the club with 9 runners taking part. Lottie Langan pulled away from Amy Kennedy in the last mile as they came 1st and 2nd. Katarina Savkovic completed the team in 7th place. The club’s B team of Ellie Johnson (11th), Kaitlin Keens (13th) and Sophie Robertson-Dover (14th) would have been the 2nd team. Martha Sigsworth (17th), Katie-Ann Varga (31st) and Georgia Bell (32nd) also took part. The club won the team event in the overall series with Lottie Langan taking the individual series award.
Under 13 Boys – 1st Team. Daniel Campbell won the race by just over 50 metres. Connal Cairns (9th) and Joshua Velding (16th) completed the team.
Under 13 Girls – 2nd Team. Lucy Gilbertson in 5th place led the team home with Isabel Madden (8th), Kate Setchell (11th) and Annabelle Coxon (22nd) also running. The club narrowly won the overall series title from Wakfield.
Under 11 Boys – Ollie Wright won the race for the third time in a row to take the overall series title.
Dave Lancaster was the 2nd Vet 60 in the Longridge 7 miles road race.
8 runners from the club did parkrun on Saturday morning. Tim Stratton came 1st at Easingwold in 18.24.
