Weekly round up – w/e 27th March

Track and Field

Frances Hogg, Grace Gannon and William Reid headed up to Gateshead on Saturday to take part in the Gateshead Indoor Pentathlon. All three athletes produced very good performances which promise much for the outdoor season.

Frances and Grace competed in the U17 Women’s competition with Frances winning the gold medal and Grace the bronze. There were 15 girls in the competition and Frances was a very deserving winner, finishing first in 4 of the 5 disciplines (she was second in the other event!). Frances gained a PB in the 60 hurdles and was very close to her best in the other events.

Grace also gained PB’s in the 60 hurdles, long jump and 60m, equalled her best in the high jump and was very close to her best in the shot.

Will produced a very good set of results throughout the day to finish with a bronze medal. He gained PB’s in the 60 hurdles, the shot and the 60m and was also close to his best in the high jump and long jump. Will has only recently moved up to the U20 age group so this is a great result which bodes well for the future.

The club had many younger track & field athletes in the North Yorkshire team for the Northern Region of Sportshall Athletics, at Manchester Sports City Indoor Track. A great competitive day, with a very high standard of young athletes, and ours competed really well.

The Under 15 Girls were 2nd, with Emily Maude a fine 2nd in the individual competition (to an England U17 60m finalist) with 2nd in the 2 lap, 2nd in standing long jump, and win in the speed bounce with an amazing 87 which is a high score Nationally.

Olivia Tweddle was 4th in the individual with a 2nd in vertical jump and 3rd in the 4 lap, and Nancy Marshall was 4th in the 2 lap. Terrific sprinting from all of them as they (with another!) won the 4 x 2 lap relay.

The Under 15 Boys were 3rd, with Bryce Farmer-Beasley 2nd in the shot. Our boys of Nathaniel Brady, Syd Marshall, Baptiste Tonon and Bryce ran hard against very strong opposition in all the sprints and relays.

The Under 13 Girls were 3rd, with Isobel Madden 2nd in the 6 lap, Emma Hutton 3rd in the 2 lap, Sophie Williams 2nd in triple jump and in the paarlauf.

We also had Harriette Williams, Alice Gilday, Isobel Holland, Hannah Mapplebeck in various relay teams finishing 3rd.

The Under 13 Boys were 3rd, with Josh Carney 3rd in the vertical jump, Henry Gibbons, and Matthew Bradley.

The Under 11 Girls were 2nd, with Juliette Callau 1st in the balance, Sophia Horsfall-Samb 2nd = in standing triple jump. They won the obstacle relay by a long way with Juliette Macquin-Jones and Matilda Baxter in. And the hurdles relay by a long way with Juliette Callau and Sophia Horsfall-Samb in.

And 2nd in the 4 x 1 lap with Matilda Baxter in.

The Under 11 Boys were 3rd with Gabriel Thompson, James Mapplebeck, Will Armstrong in the team

The Year 6 and 7 cross country runners had their main event of the year, at Market Harborough, Leicestershire. It looked a very high standard as County teams and individual entries came from all over the Country.
