Once again, the match was very tight throughout the day but a brilliant final hour and in particular some fantastic relay performances resulted in a big win for us! A big thank you to Parents, Grandparents and Officials for creating a great atmosphere with their support throughout the day. It made a huge difference to the athletes.
Here are the outstanding performances from the day:
In the U13 girls competition Carys Francis won the 70m hurdles in a new PB time of 11.76 seconds which will place her second in the UK rankings. Carys also won the shot competition and was in the 4 x 100m relay team (C Francis, M Skelton, T Northcott, E Hutton) which broke the club record. The U13 girls finished first or second in 20 of the 22 events throughout the day.
The U13 boys produced a really strong team performance throughout the day finishing first or second in 17 of the 22 events.
The U15 girls also produced a really solid team performance with a few personal bests along the way. The highlight was definitely the first-place relay performances in both the 4 x 100m and the 4 x 300m.
There were no stand-out performances in the U15 boys competition but it was another great team performance with the boys in contention in every event.
You will also be pleased to note that after a re-count of officials points from the first match, we were declared the winners with 526 points to Harrogate’s 521 ½ points. 😊
The next YDL Lower match is on Sunday 3rd July at Sheffield Hallam University City Athletics Stadium, Sheffield, S93HL. We are already guaranteed a top 3 finish in our North Premier East league and will therefore contest the YDL Northern Final at York on Saturday 30th July. However, there is still lots to do over the next 2 months to give ourselves the best possible chance of finishing in the top 2 in that play-off in an attempt to make the National Final.
