Track and Field
There was a busy weekend of track and field athletics.
The club’s Senior League team won the 2nd meeting in the Northern Senior League on Sunday that took place at Sheffield. This makes it two first places this season as the club looks to win the League title.
Several of our members took part in the North Yorkshire Schools Championships that took place on Saturday in York. The club’s athletes took home a lot of medals!
Chrissie Dover won the British Masters 2000m Steeplechase title in a time of 8.31.20 at Derby on Sunday.
Tommy Shaw (3.57.52), James Tucker (4.00.28) and Gianluca Mastrolonardo (4.06.02) all ran PBs over 1500m at the BMC meeting in Leeds last Monday. Angus McMillan also ran a PB of 3.46.08 in the BMC meeting at Watford on Saturday.
Off Track Distance Races
The 4th race in the York 10k Road Race League took place last Tuesday on the Knavesmire with fast times being run on the very flat course in good running conditions.
Charlotte Mason came 2nd in the women’s race in a time of 36.21 as she came about 100 metres behind the race winner Helen Cross of Knavesmire. However, Charlotte will win the overall series title if she wins one of the last two races. Chrissie Dover (16th in 43.40) ran most of the way with Angharad Pryce (17th in 43.41) with Karen Wood (28th in 45.09) competing the team which finished in an excellent 2nd place.
James Tucker, fresh from his 1500m debut the night before, had an epic race long battle with York Postal’s Jordan Howe which was only decided in the last 100 metres with James coming 2nd in 31.34. James’ consolation was a personal best time by over 40 seconds. The team came 5th on the night with Alex Dickinson (6th in 34.13), Adam Bateman (10th in 34.53), Steve Asquith (14th in 35.27), Ben Thompson (34th in 37.38) and Steve Wright (86th in 40.27) making up the team.
In the veteran categories Steve Wright finally broke away from Vet 60 rival Steve Tomaszewski in the last Km to win the age group race on the night and seal the overall age group title. Karen Wood was 3rd Vet 45.
The next race in the series is at Bugthorpe on Tuesday June 21st.
Dave Lancaster was the first Vet 65 in the Burton Leonard 10k on Sunday in a time of 46.55.
The club had 16 runners doing parkrun on Saturday. Steve Asquith again came first at Heslington in 17.32 with Jessica and Sophie Robertson-Dover being 1st and 2nd in the women’s race in times of 20.41 and 21.28 respectively. Martha Sigsworth came 2nd at the scenic Fountains Abbey event in 21.53.
